Ugly sweater party

Here are some pictures from the annual Carver/Vanzweden Christmas party. The Theme this year was Ugly Christmas sweaters. It was definitely a doozy, and the Froerers were gracious hosts, but Warning: Faint of heart skip Ugly sweater section of post and move directly to cute Santa pictures. Large unidentifiable objects, light up sweaters and lots of questions about our gene pool abound.

This happy camper is our first place winner and also the only relative I refuse to leave my children with! (Ha!Ha! just kidding he is a great couzie, and is making a funny face for the camera.........and yes he really does wear his pants that high, and yes that is his favorite white vinyl belt).
Speaking of belts get a load of that uh........er.............package............I mean..........get a load of that thick belt! This rock star took home the silver and he has the belt to prove it. You know what they say you can tell the size of the package, by the length of its' ribbon.

Kristin took home the bronze. It was the pants (I love how baggie and bunchie they are in front) and the safari necklace that really set off the Christmas bears sitting in that beautiful wreath. It is funny, Kristin has this other really great Christmas sweater w/ every bell and whistle, but I don't know what happened to it?? Below is David and he has a Christmas sweater that he would like to share with you.

Here is the host nick thinking, "And to think I married into this.I wonder if these genes will be dominant in my children? I will smile so no one knows that I am questioning their sanity."

And here is the Jelly Roll....................I wonder why nobody has touched it yet.............isn't it just like out of a Martha Stuart Magazine? I'm not sure who made it but, if you could judge a chef by her sweater I am guessing..................the maker is..............................

JULIE!!! doesn't that sweater look like it would be worn by some one who knows how to make a jelly roll w/ really old jelly beans. I heard she can make a mean banana trifle out of canned squash.

This is a picture of me explaining that I thought the party was a "mini" sweater party, not an ugly sweater party. Notice the mini sweater in the picture............I know...............I know.........my sweater has the same effect that Randon's belt does. I still need pictures of Heidi, Jamie and Ashley -so if you have some please email them to me! I Am pretty sure Heidi made it into the top twelve. While I am waiting for their pictures I will post the dance picture Chad and I never had.
Here are the cute Santa Pictures that I mentioned at the first of the post, before I corrupted your minds.
Carver wants a D.S
Taylor wants a soccer ball.
Zachie wants a tickle machine (or a talking donkey)

Tanner wants Grandma's cookie!

Let the Merriment Begin!

The day after thanksgiving, we have a long standing tradition of (getting in our pajamas) and watching the Polar Express movie. We love that movie, it is so magical. I found out this year it is coming out in 3D, to DVD -wahoo!!
We have officially kicked over to the Christmas season -Let the merriment Begin!! This year I found what looked to be a fun family "project" @ the store so I picked up this chocolate sucker making kit:
It looks pretty harmless right?? Well I think it needs a Parental Advisory label in EXTRA LARGE letters: For advanced parents ONLY!! Amateur parents proceed w/ caution this is the messiest thing on the planet! The good news is the mess was entirely edible, although the chocolate on the ceiling was hard to reach! I'm not sure how much chocolate actually made it into the candy molds, by the looks of things I'm guessing less than 2%. At one point I thought Tanner was bleeding on his forehead, it turned out to be a dark red streak of chocolate (it was quickly licked off willingly by mom, I felt like a cat licking her kitten clean). Here are some snapshots of the begining before I knew chaos was being unleashed.

Did someone say Sale?

It is funny I have a hard time getting to nine o'clock church on time. In fact it totally overwhelms me getting four boys bathed, teeth brushed (yeah right), shirts ironed (yeah right), socks on (almost never) and hair combed (we are about 50/50 on the hair combing). But get me to Target @ five in the morning for a great sale -no problem! Despite the fact that I spent the entire yesterday cooking and cleaning.....no problem! I even had my teeth brushed and mascara on my eyes or was it my lips? The great temptation of Tupperware on sale, and lots of other stuff that I don't need................I'm in!! I haven't been shopping the day after Thanksgiving for three years. But, once we hit twelfth street in the pitch dark and saw all the other cars headlights beaming in the distance it was like slipping on a comfy pair of slippers (slippers were on sale by the way @ Shopko). I was totally in my element -every corner unveiled a new dimension into the human psyche. It was the thrill of victory and the bitter sting of defeat all played out on a grand stage of utter chaos.

Here is my ode to all the players who showed up to the game. To the two ladies fighting over the camcorder in WALmart............life's a bi*** isn't it? To the husband giving his wife the lecture about spending too much as they are checking out............the train has already left the station, buddy, if you are not on board then get out of the way (twenty bucks says he stays home next year). To the mother who toted around a screaming newborn to score a prize for a sleeping child @ home...............hang in there tiger, we've all been there. To the worker who laughed in my face when I asked for my sought after prize............you must not have children so I will forgive you. But, to the worker who carried the desired prize in the bottom of a "discarded" items cart..........I could tell you were special from the moment you turned the corner. Your goodness beamed! To my sister Jamie, eagle eye, who spotted the object of my desire..........you truly have been blessed w/ a gift and it was a humbling experience watching you in action. AND I am proud to be your sister. To the woman who was hooting and hollering when she found that long lost video player. Thanks for sharing your Joy! Tears welled in my eyes when I saw pure happiness sweep across your tired face. And finally to the woman who budded in front of me in the checkout line @ the fabric store....................your fabric was ugly, so, so ugly!!!

Desensitization

The following conversation took place @ our home last night:
Kelli: I found the phone
Chad: What phone?
Kelli: Our home phone.
Chad: I didn't know it was missing.
Kelli: Yeah it has been missing for a couple of days.
Chad: Oh -where did you find it.
Kelli: In the oven.
You know that you have been desensitized by four boys, when you can have that conversation w/out missing a beat -no surprise over where the phone was found, no wondering or follow-up as to why or what events led the phone to be found in the oven. We acted as if every normal family finds their phone in the oven. In fact I actually thought, "gee, why didn't I think to look in the oven, of course that would be a logical place to look; you have a phone and you have an oven.........phone=oven." Unfortunately I didn't think to see if the back cover was missing from the phone. It was. I found it today in the bottom of the oven.................after the oven had been preheated......................after it already melted. You have never smelled turkey before, until you have smelt it w/ burning plastic. The good news is we have an extra cover for the phone. The bad news is the reason we have an extra cover for the phone is because Tanner stuck our other phone in a glass of water (I think he was trying to see if it would float-it did). Here is a picture of our burnt phone cover.

Here is a picture of our perfect two year old.

On the upside the turkey ROCKED!! Plastic fumes do have a way of bringing out that woodsy, turkey taste. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving; food, family, fun conversation and four of the most wonderful boys in the world. They started to giggle halfway through the prayer and by the end of the prayer we were all giggling...........It was a perfect moment!

Mashed Potatoes

Happy Thanksgiving!!! I was reminiscing about Thanksgivings gone by earlier today and I was laughing about a few of them. Growing up my aunt Nancy always had Thanksgiving at her home. I remember fondly the year she had an "adult" table and a "kids" table. I am pretty sure I was about twelve or thirteen at the time, because it was the year Aunt Nancy finally got the drapes she had been waiting for. And like the shot heard 'round the world in Concord, nobody will fess up to who fired the first round, but the next thing I knew is I was scooping up mashed potatoes to join in the fun. Corn, potatoes, rolls.....I remember lots of orange rolls flying, it was like a scene you swear doesn't ever happen in real life..................that is what made it so irresistible. I knew it was wrong, but for the record I think I only threw one or two spoonfuls. And for the record I was sitting in front of the drapes w/ my to them, thus Aunt Nancy this should clear my name as a suspect in whoever actually made multiple hits on those fancy new drapes. We never had a "kids" table after that until we all were married off (Aunt Nancy is a wise one), but I have to admit there have still been times when I look at a heaping pile of mashed potatoes and I am tempted to flick some across the table to an unsuspecting bystander just to relive the memory!

What are your fun memories you have about Thanksgiving? Hope you have a great holiday......................Especially you, Aunt Nancy!

Bi-athalon Diet.

Birthday Boy ran eighteen miles and then biked eighteen miles for a grand total of thirty-six miles......................every year chad has his birthday "marathon" for the distance that equals the years. I did a really good job of lifting the Krispy Kreme to my mouth, setting it down to drink some milk, more lifting again, up and down.......up and down........is that a bead of sweat I feel running down my forehead????................Oh nope that is just a stray piece of glazed frosting........Lick.........lick............swipe...........lick.......... (it is really hard to lick your forehead). Despite the bi-athalon, we did the town up right and had dinner @ Roosters w/ Chad's family and some good friends that used to live by us in the ghetto (Ogden). There were three pregnant girls at the table (two VERY prego girls) so we also managed to squeeze in some great conversation about breast feeding, sore nipples and embryos. Believe it or not we even had a picture book (thanks Holli!). Thus I have decided to start a new diet craze it is called the fuzzy embryo diet. All you have to do is anytime you feel hungry look at some pictures of fuzzy embryos, talk about breastfeeding and then try to eat that large steak or shrimp sitting in front of you. I promise it works!! If that doesn't curb your munchies you could always follow up the conversation with the actual birthing process. This last part is only needed for hard core dieters and you have to have a Dr.'s permission slip to join this part of our program. Our program we hope will be up and running soon, we would love to give you some actual dates, but our star dietitians will be taking some personal leave, thus check back for more updates.
***Let me know if any of you will be trying this technique out at your Thanksgiving dinner, I would love your feedback and success stories. In return we will post for FREE one of your very own pictures of you or your wife during labor.

A personal discourse every good mother knows

Today my kids had to clean! -Death. Torture. A convenient alien abduction. The flu. Diarrea. -All of these alternatives seem to be more attractive and more enjoyable to my children than merely picking up a sock, folding a shirt, sweeping the floor, retrieving the random fruit loop out of the heater vent. I would love to say that most of the time I can endure, but too often I feel just as picked on when I "make" my kids clean. Whining, complaining, the all to often used fake cry -they come out in full glory when I use the "C" word around our house. While cleaning Carver asked,"Why do you always make us do stuff?" My answer back was simply,"because I love you." He replied,"you don't love me, if you did then you wouldn't make me clean!" I then gave Carver "The Look," and unfortunately "The Look," doesn't' look so lovingly. So if I was totally capable of saying the right thing at the right time, here would be my answer.
Carver, I love you enough to teach you how to work, I endure all the whining, complaining, fighting, so that one day you will be able to provide for yourself. Yes, it would be much easier if i just let you go upstairs and turn on some brainless T.V show so that I could clean in Peace. But, that wouldn't work either, because I have decided not have cable in our home, because I love you enough to want your brain to be fed with good things. And no, Carver, I don't really believe that if that power ranger doesn't get picked up that it is going to be the end of the world. But, I want you to learn to leave things nicer than you found them, so I ask you to pick it up. I love you enough to ask you clean up some of your brother's stuff. I know the answer you will give me before you even give it, but I ask you anyway, just to teach you that it is good to help others even when we don't want to. I could let you continue playing that game boy you just found while cleaning, but the truth is I love seeing your face looking up instead of turned down into some nameless video game, thus I will continue to listen to you complain as I take it away. It would be so much easier on the both of us to quit right not and just go about doing our own business, but the truth is I want you to know that you can accomplish anything you set your mind to, even things that you don't particularly like! Because unfortunately in life, you will encounter many obstacles that you will need to cross, most will be things you don't like. I love you enough to listen to you tell me a very moving story about your friend who has the nicest mom in the whole world, because she never makes your friend clean and she always buys your friend stuff. But, I love you enough to not to go into a personal discourse about how I think that your friend is on the path to becoming a total lazy, loser and how his mom is taking the chicken's way out. So, I love you enough just to say, "if you learn to work now, it will be easier to buy stuff later, when it really matters." And then you tell me that your friend's mom is always so nice and that his mom cleans his room for him. I listen and I listen and then I offer to call his mother and see if she will adopt you or at least me (by this time my patience is wearing very thin). BUT, as I dialed her number I noticed how much taller you look today compared to last week, and then I realize that we were a little bit better and faster in cleaning today, than last week, and that has told me that you have grown a little, and that is the hardest part of all.........watching it happen and knowing that there is no turning back. And then I become a little choked up, when I realize, that despite all the whining, complaining and mock torturing, that I will wish these moments back someday -the two of us working together side by side. It isn't until I hear your friend's mom on the phone, that I remember I dialed her number. I had a difficult time hearing her, due to the loud cartoon blaring in the background, so I just hung up the phone and went back to the peaceful sound of you complaining about having to clean. I love you enough to think it sounded like music to my ears.

COLD TURKEY!

After I posted about swearing in my head, I looked at my habit and decided using profanity was not the way I wanted to live my life, so I decided to quit. I must have told a few people, because a lot of you have asked how quitting "swearing in my head" is going.I quit cold turkey about a week ago. It has gone pretty well. I got the shakes real bad for the first twenty-four hours, and the cravings hit about every hour for a couple of days. I did really good the first day......right up until I had to get out of bed at about 7 a.m. I re-grouped for a bit until I went to make the boys Eggos and I smelt ketchup burning in the bottom of the toaster. The afternoon that day, I really don't want to talk about right now (my therapist says it is not good to re-live a dumped out bag of Cheetos -that has been drenched in water overnight in a car --that was cleaned the day before). Monday night I don't really want to address as well. On an upside I'm pretty sure I didn't swear in my sleep............oh wait was that the night I trip over the yellow dump truck? Tuesday.........we'll skip, and if we skip Tuesday we might as well skip Wednesday. Thursday is definitely more like a hop (over), Friday I only swore in my head when I found fruit loops dumped down my heater vents......oh and rice krispies, but technically I didn't find the krispies until Saturday and they were only in the great room --I think Tanner ran out of rice krispies by the time he hit my bedroom, hence the addition of the fruit loops. Saturday, I did good until I came home and found that my two year old destroyer had covered my dark walnut kitchen cabinets in white paint along w/ my black french doors, and stainless steel fridge. I sent him to time out in the corner, that is when I discovered the rice krispies in the heater vent that is also when I discovered that turkey tastes a lot better warm!

OPERATION VOTE!

I am still laughing about voting last week. Is it just me or is the wording on the ballots hard to understand??? I would love to see a hidden camera in a voting booth to video people's faces as they were reading through the proposition sections of the ballots. I even tried to make a face to fake like I knew what in blank they were talking about, just so I could feel like a confident and "informed" voter. The funny part is I was totally floored with what I voted for. I am pretty sure I voted for congress to be able to eat burritos and watch the Bachelor while in session. Yeah I got that one. They couldn't sneak that one by me. But, I mean I'm just wondering who is the person that really writes this stuff??? I think we should call our legislators (preferably during a commerical) and ask them to stop outsourcing that job to China, because some key phrases are getting lost in translation. Do they really think the average voter graduated from law school? I also think it would be nice if the voter card that you punch the holes in worked like that game Operation. So like a loud buzzer would go off when you were voting for something wrong. This also could act as an impromptu IQ test, thus you would at least have some privacy in your voter booth when you got the news you were stupid. I hate to say it but when I walked out of the voter booth a little confused about things, I sized everyone up around me and I thought..........yep we're screwed (I apologize for anyone in the line that I lumped into this category). And For those of you who are wondering who I voted for president I didn't vote for either Obama or Mcain but I voted my conscience and voted who I thought would do the best job........so I voted for my cousin Nate.

****A side commentary......my dad is getting on me for my spelling errors on my blog, he thinks I need to run spell checker before I post, I keep telling him I don't have time to do it, so I tittally apopogize for any erroos in my pelling.

The Life of FISH

If you have stopped by our home in the last year you have been greeted by an over enthusiastic grayish, black, mutt dog aptly named FISH. For those of you who have not been fortunate enough to meet Fish I have included a picture (thanks Adam for the pic). I bet in the last year I have been asked a hundred times,"Is that YOUR dog?" AND always the voice is loud on the word YOUR followed by a look of shock and speechlessness. We are not sure what spaceship brought fish to our planet or what species he is, but we are pretty sure he is of the canine family -somewhere.

The things we do know about Fish is that he is a kleptomaniac and he is really, really hard to catch. Just ask the school bus driver. He followed Carver and Taylor onto the bus one morning and it took about ten minutes for the kids and driver to finally get Fish off the bus. It was sooo funny to watch!! On the Klepto habit, he has stolen everything and anything from our house. For starters he has ran off w/ multiple single shoes, socks, balls, hats, a plastic truck, outdoor pillows, a coonskin cap (he did return this one later -minus the tail), a hot dog roasting stick (this he could never figure out how to get it through the fence after about twenty minutes of an exhaustive effort he ditched it and came back for an action hero figure). Fish's favorite treasure of all is a warm diaper. I think he likes the fact that he gets to steal it, tear it apart and then roll in it. It is the classic dog triple threat. Fish started coming to our home the moment our neighbors Adam and Melody (whom are the greatest neighbors on earth!!) moved in. I think he has gone home now and then to sell his stolen goods on eBay, but other than that he pretty much lives on our front and back porch. On Halloween I bought these cool rats that looked sort of real to put by our front door to spook things up a bit. The first trick-o-treaters approached our door and I opened it to greet them only to find that fish had beat me to the punch. He was practically doing 360's in their faces when all of a sudden he spotted them.........my rats. He looked at me straight in the eye and I said,"FISH don't you even think about it................." The next moments played out like this, FISH eyes me again, sizes me up and realizes he is closer to them than me. He snatches one in his mouth and darts as I drop the candy bowl and chase after him. He was under the back fence before I even got to the back yard. Then just like the Guy w/ the metal teeth from the James Bond movie (Moonraker was it?) he turns and smiles at me rat and all. Over the last year we have learned to love FISH despite is shortcomings, his stealing habit and his cologne. He definitely has his quirks but who doesn't? So next time you ask us if fish is our dog.....we will gladly answer yes...........sort of.....but, I haven't forgiven him yet for making off with my rats.

Don't DRINK and decorate!!

I had this brilliant idea to pull out the Christmas tree and get a jump start on the Holiday.......oh did I mention I had this idea LAST week?? Anyway, my tree and Christmas junk is strewn all through the house...........a.......well............along w/ the Halloween decorations that never made it to the basement. Right now we are suffering from holiday confusion, Chad is starting to question my mental stability and to tell you the truth right now my best defense is that... well... how do I tread lightly w/out offending? Well, basically my best defense is that I was drunk when I decided to deck the halls. Chad is not buying it because he says that it is impossible to get drunk on 7-up.............. you just think it is 7-up I say to myself. Anyway where do the pilgrims fit into the grand scheme of things? I have already been given the guilt trip by an eight-year old. My niece Alex brought this up and she pretty much gave me the twenty question ringer on why I was skipping Thanksgiving. I got kind of defensive as I was hanging off a ten foot ladder (I guess it was from the 7-up circulating in my system), and I said to her, "all the pilgrims did was discover America.............I mean what is so cool about that?? Santa can squeeze his big fat belly down a chimney.......now that is cool!" But, my ansectors I am convinced are plotting against me and are trying to foil my plan. (Captain James Carver was only the captain of that one ship what was it called the May....the Mayflower??) To appease them I will post on Capt. James Carver and what a stud he was . Needless to say my idea of getting a jump start has backfired....BIG TIME!!! I am totally overwelmed I don't even know where to start to get my house back to the shiny, celestial, peaceful home that it is on a day to day basis (Ha!).......... But, the bros and I made some killer chocolate chip cookies today to take to the neighbors..............but, well they tasted so good that we just kept on eating.......and eating...........and eating (sorry neighbors)!! Nothing like a batch of warm chocolate chip cookies made with little hands to melt away all the stress of a messy house. I have kicked the 7-up habit and replaced it with a glass of cold milk -I have found that to be sufficient for the moment. But I will keep you posted on the tree, Thanksgiving, my waistline and trying to stay sober while decking the halls.........maybe I will wait until tomorrow to tell Chad that he needs to get the twinkle lights hung on the roof before it snows.......could someone please get me another round of cold milk?

Fashion and comfort

O.k so every one is talking about the dangers of blogging. One of the news station here in Utah did a little reporting on the subject. I would like to illustrate how we (Booths) were one step ahead of the news. (I am going to post the 2nd picture of the 2nd folder). I want to make a couple of points w/ this picture:

First, this picture illustrates how tight knit Chad and I are w/ famous people. The guy in the garbage bag is famous.

Second, notice the garbage bag.... this is the same style, that Chad wore before the St. George Marathon.......He had to arrive hours early to get this exact make and model. If you need some fashion advice about how to wear your next garbage bag........look to us we know the secrets on how to pull off this look and what shape to wear for your figure.

Third, know that before the news station did the piece on the dangers of blogging......we were way ahead of the game. Notice how we took the picture to keep the identity of this famous person private...........(way ahead of the game just like i said). Therefore, for all of you who are concerned about this matter.....be of good cheer, we are watching your back.................literally!

Grandma Irene

Well, tomorrow Grandma Irene a.k.a Grandma Hunter turns 91!!! Yep that's right the old grey mare is still what she used to be. I just have to pay homage to this great lady who has had such a fun influence on my life and the life of my family's. Happy Birthday Grandma, we love you!!! Here are some fun facts about grandma Hunter:

  • She once dated Joe Demaggio...(the story has gotten a lot better w/ age)

  • Back in the day, she was a switchboard operator for the phone company. She knew everything going on in Ogden, as Irene and her friends at the phone company would "freely" tap into the phone conversations of politicians and hookers alike.

  • She was a Grand Marshall for the Ogden Rodeo Days.

  • She is the only person who can bypass a very long restroom line (by going in through the exit) and get away w/ it. I have seen this strategy played out several times at the orange county swap meet, and disneyland. Sometimes I have seen her enter the men's restroom, that strategy works as well.

  • She loves to eat doughnuts, and refer to them as a roll. (I think mentally this helps to keep the calorie count down).

  • She is a huge economic boost to Ogden, she alone can keep a good ross store in business for years. Not to mention.....now what is the name of the store that Jamie likes???.....You know the one w/ the red sign...T.J something.

  • She takes a lot of joy in seeing me eat. She always says, "boy Kelli, it is nice to see you eat. I haven't seen you eat like that for a long time." The funny part is she sees me eat the same amount everytime I'm w/ her and she always says that.

  • Her mother only weighed ninety pounds. She was a petite little thing. When she died the mortician told her that her mother had one of the nicest bodies that he had ever seen. (She loves to tell this story)

  • She is the only person that can confuse the word condominium w/ the word condom. Needless to say, she had a friend stay down in florida in one of the biggest condoms on the beach!

  • She is also the only living breathing person who can function, w/ a hole in her heart, "no vertabrets", a missing spleem, a broken back, diverticulitus, and lots and lots of scar tissue...............not to mention all that is going on "down there."

SURFER BOY

Well the Booth family's motto is SURF OR DIE (please refer to the bottom of the page). Chad, A.k.a. Sufer Boy took this motto to heart and spent the first half of the week surfing in San diego........(or if you are from the HAUN family Sand Iego). The guys that he went w/ were pretty hard core surfers. They were in the water before sun up and they were in the ocean at sun down. The boys I stayed w/ at home, were hard core as well the bubba boy was into trouble before sun up and he seemed to still be finding at sundown..........life's a beach! Here are some fun pictures of Chad surfing.
