It's Halloween

Tonight is the night
When dead leaves fly
Like witches on switches
Across the sky,
When elf and sprite
Flit through the night
On a moony sheen.
Tonight is the night
When leaves make a sound
Like a gnome in his home
Under the ground,
When spooks and trolls
Creep out of holes
Mossy and green.
Tonight is the night
When pumpkins stare
Through sheaves and leaves everywhere,
When ghouls and ghost and goblin host
Dance round their queen.
It's Halloween.

RULES TO LIVE BY

I went running a few days ago. The day after my run the following conversation took place between a person, who I shall refer to as idiot, and myself.

Idiot: Hey, I saw you speed walking yesterday.
I think to myself, "excuse me mista.......that was called running."
Kelli: Actually, I was running not speed walking there is a difference."
Idiot: WELL, you were not running when I saw you.....you definately were speed walking.
I think to myself.......he is a bigger loser than I thought.
Kelli: Hmmmmm......no, I am pretty sure I was running the whole time.
Idiot: WELL, I must have saw you when during the time when you weren't "pretty sure"
I think to myself do you want to take this outside buddy?
Kelli: Ha, Ha. See you around....Mr. Runner Police.
I secretly flipped him off in my mind as he turned and walked away.

I feel bad for mentally flipping him off, thus I decided to come up with my own Runner's etiquette to help other's not make the same mistake our village idiot did and to save people the humiliation of being called a speed walker when they are really a runner.
RUlE numero UNO: If the person looks like they are making a concerted effort. Call it running and not speed walking. This is the polite way. For example say, "Wow, I saw you out running the other day Kelli, one minute you were there and....flash.....the next minute you were gone. Don't say, "I didn't know you were a speed walker?"
Rule #2: Look for clues to distinguish a runner from a speed walker. In running generally there is more perspiration than walking and people generally tend to move their legs a little bit faster. (Runners also tend to poop their pants more than walkers....sorry to be so graphic, but, I have seen a lot of marathons in my days). Use this as a guide to help you decide if you are dealing with a runner or a speed walker.
RUle #3: If you can't tell if they are running or walking by the clues, error on the same side you would if you were wondering if a woman is pregnant. Case in point: NEVER ask a woman if she is pregnant unless you see a baby emerging at that exact moment (best advice I could ever give). Thus, just assume the "exerciser" is a runner and not a speed walker......this will make them feel good.
RULE #4: Always, Always, Always end on a positive. Tell them they were looking good running. For example you should say, "You know what you were looking great out there just a running along the side of the road. " Don't ever say, "Hey, yeah so I saw your bum jiggling around as you were speed walking the other day. You looked like you were about to have a heart attack."

Ultimate Fighting

Superhero Play at our home goes like this:
Zach in a Batman suit shouts: "I have the POWER!!!" as he leaps off a chair. (I don't have the heart to tell him, that is actually He-Man's famous line). I continue to hear him chanting it for quite some time until he is joined by Tanner in a power ranger suit who sings at the top of his lungs, "Iron Man take my's hands........IRON MAN!!!" As darts across the room leaping and spinning. When he lands he does a repertoire of karate chopping and kung fu kicks (you have never seen kung fu, until you have seen Nanner do kung fu in a puffy muscle suit). Our superheros continue for quite some time adding new lines and various moves as they remember them. Their is no respecter of persons here. If you are a wearing a super hero costume, you have the right to use "other" super hero material. You get props too, if you add in fighting noises and moves. Oh and everyone gets x-ray vision. Star Wars is playing on the television and our superheros eventually get pulled in by the tractor beam on the tube. Batman/He-Man then says to Power Ranger/Iron Man, "you might get scared watching this. Are You scared?" Nanner responds, "Nope." Nanner's arms start flying wildly and Chop, chop, chop karate moves are coming out of the wood work. The high point of this part of the story is when Nanner, charges the T.V in an attempt at a round house kick meant for the screen but he falls short and gets a wood drawer instead. Zach then sternly warns, "I mean it Tanner, this show could get really, really, scary for you. It will be very scary when you see Darth Mal." Nanner responds with, "IRON MAN, TAKE MY'S HAND!" (as of date I currently am not sure what superhero gets the credit for this line........but at our house it is used often.
The following conversation then takes place between our superheros.
Zach now has added a plastic hook to his black bat suit he says,"When you see him, close your eyes -k-."
Nanner responds with a loud, "K!"
Zach in a real sweet voice says, "Darth Mal is that guy the one with the creepy face and the glowing eyes. See him?"
Nanner responds with a " Yep."
Zach wisely says, " ummm...... now is when you should close your eyes." Nanner then squints so he can still see perfectly. Zach looks at him approvingly," YEAH that is good!! Keep them closed like that and you won't get scared." A couple moments pass and I hear, "MOM, Tanner and I need our light sabers we are trying to play super heroes in here and we can't play until we find them!..............Or if you can't find them could you just bring us some guns?"
