"journeys, adventures & random spots of chaos"
Ever since Taylor was five he has wanted bright white high top shoes, the kind that look like plastic. Every time we go to a shoe store Taylor is like a Jedi fighter caught in the tractor beam of Darth Vader's ship. White high top shoes pull him in and he is paralyzed by their bright whiteness. They are like a drug to him, one he has never been able to shake. I have said no to him a hundred times over and over again through the years. "They look like plastic, they will get dirty, they are ugly. Mother knows best what is stylish for you -trust me white high tops are a fashion disaster, etc." These are all the excuses I have used. I don't know where I have failed as a mother. Carver was able to shake wanting the superman light up shoes and Zach quickly out grew a want for shoes that made siren sounds when you ran, but Taylor has never been able to keep his eyes off the prize (glowing, white, faux leather). The five of us; Carver, Taylor, Zach, Tanner and I walked into the mall, we had a plan already set in place -no character shoes, no pink shoes, no shoes that look like plastic, and no shoes that are the color white. Maybe it was when we were in our millionth store and Tanno was pulling the nylon "try on" socks over his head or when Zach was entranced by some florescent, green, DC shoes, but at some point in time, inside that mall, I lost my resolve and mumble a "yes" to Taylor as he held up some Shaquille O'Neal temple shoes. It could have just been the reflection from the shoes, but I have never seen his face light up so bright.
